ABSTRACT
Change is inevitable, but change to processes, procedures, and layout at the workplace often brings progress. However, ineffective management of change has been the cause of many major accidents in the past and creates potential for future accidental events. The hazards encountered and risks posed by these changes should be assessed and the necessary controls put into place before the change to reduce the probability of the change resulting in accidental loss. There are a number of ways to implement the safe management of change. All achieve the same objective of ensuring that the change does not create additional risks; is of benefit to the organization, its employees, and its processes; and is communicated to all. The auditors must establish that the organization has a safe management of change process in place. This should be documented, and a standard should be available as well as a change tracking and control document.
