ABSTRACT

Safety control is the management function of identifying what must be done for safety, setting standards of measurement and accountability, inspecting to verify completion of work, evaluating, and following up with safety action. Most safety and health management systems start at a logical point, which is a safety and health policy statement of intent which is initiated, and followed through, by management. An important step in implementing a safety management system is the compiling and issuing of a safety management system implementation plan. The plan will consist of a number of small objectives to be achieved and will lead to the complete implementation of a well-structured safety management system, over a predetermined period of time. The management review recommended by the Guidelines would consist of frequently comparing the safety management system progress with the action plan.
