ABSTRACT
SBT views clients and their situations as nested in larger contexts that include familial, cultural, and social systems. Integrating families, community members, and cultural customs into treatment is consistent with SBT’s view that clients are part of diverse, rich contexts that represent valuable therapeutic resources. SBT also recognizes that oppressive social and economic conditions can be sources of client distress, including their presenting concerns. For these reasons, SBT practitioners are informed by systems beyond the individual client.
