ABSTRACT
In the late 1970s through the 1980s, school of cials sought to stem the increasing presence of illegal drugs in schools by conducting schoolwide sniffs of virtually all students. Some schools con ned sniffs to locker and parking lot areas. This led to a great deal of legal activity, often actions by parents against school systems. School sniffs are also conducted using explosives detection dogs when bomb threats are received.2
