ABSTRACT

Until 2011, it was the statutory duty of secondary schools to provide some form of ‘work-based learning’ for all students aged 14-16 years in key stage 4 (KS4) and almost all school students undertook some form of work experience, usually in Year 10 and usually for a duration of two weeks. Following the Wolf Report’s (Department for Education (DfE) 2011) recommendation, the government has removed this legal requirement, which may affect schools’ decisions to offer work experience in Year 10.
