ABSTRACT

Science is, by its very nature, no respecter of national or cultural boundaries. Nature is universal, and so is the study of nature. As we have seen, the precursors of modern science appeared in many places around the world. The actual appearance of modern science in western Europe in the seventeenth century was quickly followed by its spread to other parts of the world. In Chapter 6, we saw how science traveled to the periphery of Europe, and in this chapter we will look at the way that science became a truly international endeavor, a part of world history.
