At a trial, the culpability or innocence of the defendant is established in di’erent ways. Some of these ways involve the use of forensic science.

Forensic science, the science in the service of the law, comprises many di’erent specialty areas. e area that comprises all the aspects having to do with full-service forensic science laboratories is called criminalistics. Criminalistics involves the identication and interpretation of physical evidence found at the scene of a crime. is evidence can be separated into biological evidence analysis, material evidence analysis, re debris and substance identication, and pattern evidence such as ngerprints, footwear, and others, and presented to the court during the trial.
