ABSTRACT
As children grow older in westernized cultures they add more features to their figures. As well as the head contour, legs and eyes the main extra items are the torso, the arms, the mouth and nose, hair, hands and feet. But it is not particularly unusual for the arms, hands, feet and nose to be omitted. The ears and neck are fairly uncommon in the figure drawings of even 5- to 6-year-olds. Although the heads, hands and feet of their figures may be disproportionately large the figures generally look as if all their parts are located in more or less the appropriate places; if the arms are included they are almost always attached to the torso and not to the head.
