ABSTRACT
I was 61 years old when I first decided to learn to play the viola. In a beginners group at the East London Late Starters String Orchestra (ELLSO) I met Gillian Gould (whose piece you may have already read), along with other people, younger and older – all of us beginning the frightening and complex task of learning to play a stringed instrument and all of us coming from very different backgrounds and experiences.
