ABSTRACT

This section looks at all the ancillary space required for the smooth operation of a theatre. It begins with information on management structures. While this may seem a little odd, it is important to know how the organisation is to be structured, what departments there will be, and how many staff are to be accommodated, in order to evaluate the number, type and size of offices and other facilities which need to be provided. The information needs to be assessed at the planning stage and incorporated into the design brief. This also applies to education and community activities which are now fundamental parts of most theatre organisations. Each has its own individual space requirements.
