ABSTRACT
This chapter explores for clinicians the relation between substance abuse and health and performance at work. It also considers clinical management of substance abuse, company policies that may be available to help abusers and implications for the occupational physician. Numerous substances are abused, including cannabis, cocaine, opiates and benzodiazepines, but the most common in the working population is alcohol, which is the main focus of this chapter.
