ABSTRACT
Sea control in wartime is generally accomplished by destroying, annihi lating, or neutralizing the enemy's naval forces at sea and in their bases, and by physically seizing or destroying their basing areas and the key elements of support ashore. In narrow seas these actions can be combined and coordinated with the actions of air and ground forces, and sometimes even coastal defense forces. These objectives are also accomplished by seizing a large stretch of the opponent's coast together with naval and air bases and ports, choke points and the key positions offshore.
