ABSTRACT

Earlier I questioned the extent to which sport-for-development could be viewed as a ‘new field’ in its ‘formative stage’ (Kay, 2009: 1177; Woodcock et al., 2012). While such a position might provide legitimation for the conceptual entrepreneurs and the establishment of new journals, academic courses, websites, organisations, conferences and congregations and sources of research funding, it seems an odd claim for several reasons.
