In what sense a post-suburban era?

After providing a definition of suburbs, this chapter considers three senses in which we may have entered a post-suburban era – as a time period in which outer suburbs are growing relative to inner suburbs and cities, as a new morphologically diffuse form of suburbanization, and as a product of the inherent contradictions of suburbs themselves. The chapter emphasizes the value of this last definition of a post-suburban era for academic analysis.
