ABSTRACT

In this session, participants will identify how anxiety and stress can arise - for instance, how worry about dementia can lead to avoidance, which, in turn, leads to loss of self-confidence. This is a vicious cycle because anxiety and stress also have a negative effect on memory, which causes more worry, more avoidance and a greater loss of self-confidence - all of which makes it harder to concentrate and to remember. In this session, facilitators will also use a relaxation exercise with the group and look at some thinking strategies that people can use to help them cope with unpleasant and harmful feelings and thoughts.
