ABSTRACT

Setting out is an expression used in the construction industry to cover the general measurement and control of the horizontal and vertical positions of buildings, roads and drains (and other features) on a building or civil engineering site. Some of the curvilinear shapes which are set out by builders and civil engineers include bay windows, circular brickwork, arches and curves in roads. In this chapter calculations required for setting out building sites, bay windows, curved brickwork and arches, and a brief procedure of utilising these calculations, are given.
