ABSTRACT

In an analysis of national survey results from 2006 to 2008, the percentage reporting their sexual identity as bisexual is between 1% and 3% of males and between 2% and 5% of females. As a bisexual (finds both genders attractive – depends on a binary) or pansexual (finds all genders attractive – a better fit for me) woman, the author not confined to finding one gender attractive. It wasn't always this way. He grew up without really questioning my sexuality, because he had internalised some deeply held ideas about gender. Children are having those heterosexual relationships all the time – not necessarily sexual ones, not necessarily even what we would call a relationship, but proto-relationships where they're imitating adults and finding boundaries and deliciously exploring this weird thing called attraction and seeing what it feels like, trying it on for size.
