ABSTRACT

This chapter examines why care for people with a dementia is a shared responsibility, and the global policy landscape of dementia, and ageing more broadly, are making way for the idea of shared responsibility to evolve. Most notably the 'Dementia Friendly Communities' movement, which seeks to include every sector of society, including banks and shopping malls, plays a role in supporting people with a dementia to live at home. The advantage of recording the sharing of responsibilities is that the document itself takes on a responsibility. In this way, the technology can take on responsibility for implementing certain actions and–to some degree–moral responsibility for the effects of those actions the sharing of responsibilities does not always just happen–although sometimes it can do. Therefore, it is helpful to think in terms of tools for sharing responsibilities–these are the mechanisms, frameworks and technologies for talking about and organising a shared plan of care.
