ABSTRACT

Parasite Cafe offers two tempting morsels—Possession of the Reaganheads and Terror of the Simulacra. The menu indicates that these items, like all Parasite Cafe concoctions, even the solo performances, represent a process of collective production. Composed, at various times, by five to seven core participants and a host of contributing others, the Parasite Cafe has been described as a site of theoretical and practical intervention within and against the telecommunicative confines of whitemale and transnationalized capital. Occasional manifestations of the Parasite Cafe occur under the sign of related associations. For instance, since July 4, 1990, the day after the US Supreme Court's decision on Webster, Parasite Cafe members have joined with other Boston area artists and activists in forming Sit-Com International. Sit-Com activities have included performative, poster, and graffiti actions against the heterosexist, racist, and imperialist materializations of capital in the USA.
