ABSTRACT

The article illustrates the possibility of using the principles of Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics in the prediction of the stability of rock slopes through a simplified methodology of analysis that makes it possible to leave aside the knowledge of the actual position of the cracks in the rock mass and to reduce computation times. The proposed simplified methodology is described, applied to a number of simple slope configurations containing a discontinuity system and checked on the basis of complete propagation analyses conducted through a numerical method.
