ABSTRACT

Victor William Michael Drury’s medical career began in surgery. After his house officer post at Birmingham’s General Hospital, he became resident surgical officer at Kidderminster Hospital. Against the backdrop of low morale in general practice in the 1960s, Drury worked hard to help improve aspects of general practice. In 1973, Drury became part-time senior clinical tutor in general practice at the University of Birmingham. In 1979, Drury and Robin Hull published Introduction to General Practice, a book designed for medical students. Early on in his career, Drury had become involved with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). Aside from his work with the RCGP, Drury was also busy on other committees. This included the Regional Research Committee, visitor for Joint Committee on Higher Professional Training and chairman of the Executive Committee of the Association of University Teachers of General Practice.
