ABSTRACT

The days are gone where we used analog energy meters; digital energy meters are used extensively used today. It has recently been uncovered that these meters are not completely 100% reliable. As with any other device they are subject to mechanical and human errors. Human error rating in these meters is about 0.5% which accounts to about 78,426 cases just in Tamil Nadu alone. The proposed paper was designed to overcome this human error through automation. Through this design users will be able to read their usage data within the comforts of their home with just a click of a button. This is possible through a proprietary application that is developed for both iOS and android. The design will not only be beneficial for the users but also be useful for the body that provides the energy used by the users, as it reduces the errors and also reduces the number of personnel employed to be physically present at the meter to read the data.
