ABSTRACT

The transformation processes of recent years have redrawn the map of Eu rope to a considerable extent. Only 15 years ago the post-war borders seemed to be immovable and invariable. At present Europe is being recon structed, and the new borders reflect this reconstruction. While new borders are emerging in the territories of the former socialist countries, in Western Europe they are practically disappearing. In the European Union the borders between national states are becoming less and less significant and regional formations are becoming more important.
