ABSTRACT
The process of the construal of risk then, as well as how risk can be mitigated, becomes a manifestation of the degree to which risk communication and consultation are effective in a particular organization, society or on a global scale. Team/dyad psychological safety is recognized as one of the social dynamics involved in the perception and communication of risk and which leads to increased/decreased interpersonal risk-taking and subsequently affects 'real risk'. The effects of risk are not limited to the risk signal or risk event itself, but can have considerable secondary impacts based on dynamic social processes of amplification or attenuation. Societal paradigms and discourses such as capitalism, socialism, post-colonialism, globalization, the information technology revolution, global security, racial/gender equity and diversity management significantly affect the development of organizational thinking and behaviour. The chapter suggests that the safety and risk are social constructs as far as epistemology goes.
