ABSTRACT

(p. 59) The term ‘social justice’, as it is repeatedly used, does not refer to an economic system such as socialism, but rather to a set of specific rulings aimed at alleviating the gross injustice created by capitalism in the society. These rulings are clearly characterized by certain ‘embellishments’ as is shown from the definition provided of their practical concept. Even though such rulings have served as embellishments to the capitalist system, they are, considering the reality on which they were based, an injustice aimed at prolonging and consolidating capitalism. For instance, it is considered social justice to grant retirement to employees, bonuses to workers, free medical care to the poor, as well as free education to their children. However, such matters are not social justice, but rather a cover-up of the injustice in the society. Why should retired government employees receive pensions from the State when they grow older while the same is not extended to gardeners, chauffeurs, and other needy individuals who spent their lives in the service of the country and its citizens? Why should workers receive a bonus while the same is not extended to peddlars, newspaper vendors, shoe-blacks, and similar workers? And why should medical care and education be free for the poor but not free for all people? (p. 60) This clearly shows that their 59 social justice is in actuality injustice because the State is responsible for providing such essential needs as medical care, education, defence and security for the entire nation, individual by individual, the poor and rich, the weak and the strong alike. The State is also responsible for the full provision of all basic needs for all citizens, and for enabling them to obtain all their non-basic needs without making any distinctions between the able and the disabled. This should be a 44general rule for those unable to meet all their needs, whether they are employees or shoe-blacks, as it is their right to acquire a sufficiency of their basic and non-basic needs, not a specific pension or bonus.
