ABSTRACT

This research paper aims to understand the potential risks and opportunities of introducing Social Networking (SN) as a teaching and learning tool in the higher education sector in Saudi Arabia. Based on the literature an online survey (quantitative method) was employed and 126 out of 375 students completed the whole survey in Saudi Arabia. The online survey results confirmed and produced six opportunities namely: acquire new friendship relationship; sustainable and accessible activities; improve personal and communication skills; scrutinize research and study easily; regular collaboration with peers; and Acquire latest information. Moreover, the four risks are namely: decline students’ deep thinking; stress and Anxiety; avoid personal interaction; security and fears, associated with SN usage in Saudi Arabia. Further research will be carried out in future to scrutinize more students from other countries to corroborate the result of the research findings of this paper.
