ABSTRACT
Laying the foundation for all that follows, this chapter charts the social spaces of 23 capitalist nations using CatPCA. It documents the two key axes of difference, finding a remarkable uniformity across the samples, and notes that the models can all be said to approximate Bourdieu’s original model in which capital volume and capital composition prevailed. While the headline finding is thus one of convergence, however, it is also suggested, through empirical analysis, that the different strengths of the axes across nations may have something to do with differences in political economy and, with that, position in the global social order.
