ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to introduce the concepts of effectiveness and efficiency in the context of social entrepreneurship. The chapter focuses on the internal aspects of the organization and does not deal with its social impact, as the latter will be discussed in Chapter 14. The chapter is divided into four sections. The first section defines and explains the concepts of effectiveness and efficiency following the tradition of organization theory. The second describes the tools that are used to measure organizational effectiveness. The third analyzes the concept of effectiveness in social ventures. The fourth describes the measures used to assess the efficiency of social ventures.
