ABSTRACT
Women’s Economic Empowerment has become top of the global agenda with the 2017 theme of the 61st Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women being focused on “Women’s Economic Empowerment in a Changing World of Work”. While it is inspiring to see women directors and heads of corporations making a positive impact in the 21st century, it is evident that these gains are too few and far between. To date, we still have a huge gap in gender parity in many boardrooms across the globe. Various studies show that companies with the highest representation of women in their senior management teams enjoy a higher return on equity than do those with fewer or no women in senior management. It is therefore evident that incorporating women is vital to the future of business as women bring with them the valuable contributions that diverse perspectives bring to business and break down gender and economic inequalities.
