ABSTRACT
The relationships between environmental design and human responses to weather and climate are therefore important. The Value of the atmosphere’ from a sociological or physiological point of view embraces many more aspects of life. The tourist trade is also influenced to an important degree by variations in the weather. Though it is difficult to place quantitative values on many aspects of weather there appear to be two approaches to it from the standpoint of human behaviour and reaction. The sociological aspects of the human dimensions of the atmosphere have been reviewed by J. E. Haas, who says that while a few sociologists early in the twentieth century speculated on the way in which the environment may shape man’s institutions, no meaningful research on the possible relationship was conducted. Many sociological aspects of modern living are in fact geared to weather conditions. The effect of weather conditions on crime rates has not been investigated in any detail.
