ABSTRACT

Software packages designed for energy management systems (EMSs) consist of one or more money-saving programs that contribute to energy conservation through efficient energy management. These programs interact continuously to operate as an integrated system. The programs perform most of the functions used to save money and energy in buildings. The scheduled-start/stop program consists of starting and stopping equipment based on the time of day and day of week. The ventilation and recirculation program controls the operation of the outside air dampers when the introduction of outside air would impose an additional thermal load during warm-up or cool-down cycles prior to occupancy of the building. Special software programs are most commonly left to the imagination of the EMS operator after he has a complete understanding of the operating system and necessary sensors are in place.
