ABSTRACT

The Soviet Peace Fund – the oldest non-governmental foundation in the Soviet Union – has broadened its cooperation with the United Nations (UN) family. The Soviet Peace Fund runs a number of nationwide programmes which fall in line with major concerns of the world community, reflected in the activities of the UN. The Fund hosted in Moscow the UN Conference on Conversion, ‘Economic Adjustments in an Era of Arms Reduction’, which was organized by the UN Department for Disarmament Affairs. The cooperation of the SPF with the UN Department for Disarmament Affairs will be continued in the process of preparations for the 1991 UN Conference on Disarmament in Leningrad, which will be hosted by the Soviet Peace Fund. The Soviet Peace Fund is actively involved in the process of preparations for ‘Brazil – 92’ and sees its own role in it as encouraging research and debate to elaborate the concept of sustainable growth.
