The Black Lunch Table (BLT) is a continuous collaboration between artist and professor Jina Valentine, based in Chicago, and artist Heather Hart, based in New York. BLT brings together members of the community to participate in candid, interdisciplinary and intergenerational conversations. Convened around a nomadic collection of roundtables, BLT includes the Artists Round Table Series, which unites artists of color who identify with the African Diaspora, and the People’s Table Series, which is open to any individual who wishes to discuss issues affecting the broader community. BLT aims to foster and strengthen the connections and dialogue between all community members as well as specifically focusing on the experience of Black artists. As a conceptual, non-object-based project, the Black Lunch Table is a living art piece that is altered based on who is present.
