ABSTRACT

Spain, a country geographically close to the coasts of North Africa, is the most vulnerable to illegal immigrants that wash its shores, and to claims of colonization due to its continuing grip on its enclaves of Ceuta and Melillia on Moroccan soil. Judge Juan del Olmo highlighted a trend of Moroccans and Algerians working together in radical Islamic groups in Spain. Italy has one of the lowest Muslim immigration minorities, nevertheless in some areas it has taken the most dramatic measures. Italy passed a terrorism law after the 7 July subway bombings in London that opened the way for intelligence agencies to eavesdrop if an attack is feared to be imminent. Though Switzerland and Austria are not large immigration countries, many Muslim elements have found asylum there, chief among them the Ramadan family, a direct descendent of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt-Hassan al-Banna.
