ABSTRACT

In July 2009, Taipei National University of the Arts organized the Opening Ceremony for the 8th World Games—the first global athletic event held in Taiwan since 1949. The World Games Opening Ceremony was held in the Main Stadium in northern Kaohsiung City, a venue containing 40,000 seats. Due to the weight restriction on the PU fields and the need to protect the grass on the performing space, the production team relinquished the idea to build any traditional stage set design for the ceremony. Shortening the time for entrances and exits was considered key for quick and clean transitions between performances. The challenge of creating spectacular dance is not just about what the reader make and see, but more importantly, it is about how the dance impresses upon the people who are not a part of the arts world.
