ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a brief meditation on the archetype of spirit, its appearance in dreams, and its connection to the body. Dreams are spiritual phenomena that awaken us. The religious significance of dreams derives from their capacity to gift us with our own spiritual visions and symbolism, and to reveal glimpses of illumined states of consciousness. Dreams convey images of our most exalted human experiences as well as of our complexes and shadow figures. Spirit is an archetypal pattern of experience characterized by its energy, impetus, radiance, numinosity, its infinite creativity and imagination, and its appearance as the light of awareness. The spiritual dynamism of the unconscious expansively produces dream images that help us therapeutically and emotionally evolve the personality. The chapter concludes with a dream that had the character of a synchronistic, visionary experience and revelation of spiritual mystery.
