There are different ideas about human life and how it should be lived, derived from global cultural traditions, religious groups, and philosophical beliefs. All of these traditions view childhood differently, and seek to influence how children are raised and educated in the modern world. This chapter looks at the possible tensions between some of humankind’s oldest beliefs, including Indigenous cultural traditions, and contemporary educational cultures. We explore how educators can value diversity through making space for acceptance and openness within their communities of learners.
