ABSTRACT

Over the last decade of sport science research, we have witnessed the emergence of evidence that challenges our traditional perception of aging and exercise. We have often assumed that, with age, our bodies will lose strength, our energy will be reduced, and new-skill acquisition will be difficult. Yet, we are actually finding that active seniors can participate in training and sport well into their ninth decade and compete in the seventh and eighth decades. The limits to strength, stamina, and skill are being tested continually, and the boundaries reset by experience, training, and research.
