ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on parole supervision in Finland. Finland belongs to the Nordic countries and has adopted welfare state ideology, which contributes also to the field of criminal policy. It gives to criminal policy, especially in respect to executing official sanctions. The chapter introduces Finnish practices in prison release and to reflect the experiences of the supervisors who contribute to the actual work of integrating released prisoners into the community. It draws to the ideology of imprisonment and familiarises the reader with regulations concerning the theme. The chapter discusses on a new Government Bill concerning community penalties was introduced and new legislation came into effect at the beginning of May 2015. It discusses the results of interviews implied that the number of meetings was, after all, flexible. If an offender needed more support, the supervisor might reduce the time between meetings, for example they would meet once a week instead of once every two weeks.
