ABSTRACT
Beginning with this chapter, we narrow our focus to the individual specifications for each of four key aspects of e-learning: data tracking, meta-data, course packaging and interchange, and assessment. This chapter provides an introduction to standards-based interoperable data tracking. Proper communication of data between learning objects (LOs) and the learning management system (LMS) is the most critical part of an effective e-learning implementation. Our experience as consultants indicates that it is also the source of the most confusion and frustration.
