ABSTRACT

This multidirectional reading into resounding ideas in the works of architect Carlo Scarpa and avant-garde composer Luigi Nono explores the conversions of time, weather and tempo in memorable ambiances, where the ceiling plays the role of a first detail. The ambiances at the Querini Stampalia Foundation (1961–63) and the Castelvecchio Museum (1957–64), converted by Scarpa, elicit daydreaming under counter-ceilings; while attention is paid to nightmaring under industrial factory ceilings in Luigi Nono’s Illuminated Factory (La Fabbrica Illuminata, 1964).
