ABSTRACT

This chapter assumes that students have become capable, though not necessarily completely proficient, in the announcing specialization of their choice. Resume is indispensable when they apply for a job in any announcing specialization. It may be unwise to include a photograph when one applies for a position at a radio station or as a freelance voice-over performer. All resumes should be accompanied by a cover letter, which is usually e-mailed to the prospective employer. A recorded sample of their work is a must when looking for employment as an announcer. The sample, an audition demo, is needed when applying to a station or for work as a freelance voice-over performer. Many performers have started their careers online, by posting to YouTube, podcasting their shows, and building loyal fans via Facebook and Twitter. For television jobs, some employers ask applicants to upload their video to the station's website.
