ABSTRACT

The profession of education and thus the opportunities for governance in education are special in that they provide do-overs. Teachers change the way they handle their lesson planning or provide for proactive classroom management, or at least we hope they do. Each new season is a prime time to influence the climate and even, little by little, to leverage a school or school district's organizational culture forward positively. Reinvention is the chance to bring about true and lasting change to the school districts by planning for it first of all and also by modeling how the people in the highest levels of decision making take the opportunity to pause, reflect, hold up a mirror to what the school board member do. Boards would be liable for a type of malpractice, it would seem, if they were to intentionally not move forward or seek improvement.
