ABSTRACT

Several important tests of statistical hypotheses are based on the Chi-square distribution. The Chi-square test can also be used to test the entire model. The first type of applications focuses on testing whether the data belong to a particular distribution. The number of transmission errors in communication channels is typically modeled by a Poisson distribution. Parametric statistical methods are always designed for a specific family of distributions such as Normal, Poisson, and Gamma. A software company conducts regular surveys where customers rank their level of satisfaction on a standard scale “strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, strongly disagree”. Managers of an internet shopping portal suspect that more customers participate in online shopping if they are offered some incentive, such as a discount or cash back.
