Structural adjustment policies and the poor in Africa: an analysis of the 1980s

The two regions most affected by adjustment during the 1980s were sub-Saharan Africa (SSA)1 and Latin America and the Caribbean (LA). While the earlier parts of this book discussed adjustment policies as they affected developing countries generally, this chapter focuses especially on developments in sub-Saharan Africa; the next chapter provides an overview of Latin America and the Caribbean.
