ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 outlines structural affluent consumer life-style stressors. The relationship between “work/consumption rich, time poor” affluent consumer life-style and stress is discussed. The structural features of affluent marketplace stressors are deeply connected to the environmental stressors and internalized stressor described in Chapters 4 and 5. The elaboration of the structural properties of these marketplace-induced stressors enable a clear view of the common denominator of affluent consumer strains by zooming out and focus on affluent consumer group characteristics. Links between affluent consumer subjective well-being and time spent working vs spent with family/friends are described from a stress perspective with implications on C02 emissions as well as materialism as an affluent consumer trait.
