ABSTRACT

We introduced many ADD-friendly organizing strategies in the preceding chapter. But without structure and support, those strategies are less likely to be successful. Structure and support provide the underlying framework for organizing success, a framework that will help you implement ADD-friendly strategies in a consistent and persistent manner. Think of the three “S’s”—structure, support, and strategies-as a pyramid, with structure and support at the base, supporting the strategies above. The abilities to initiate a project, to behave in a consistent manner, and to persist until the project is completed are all critical executive functions. As we are building these executive functioning skills, we will need more support, but as these skills become habitual, your need for this “scaffolding” will lessen.
