ABSTRACT

Beginning with children on the spectrum of greater severity allows for a point of departure from which the reader may plot the course of creative responses as they are made special. Their development from playing around, self-stimulating and eventually culminating into products may progress and regress over different points on the curve. While those on the more autistic end begin the narrative, they are encountered once again, when the book shifts from artistic outcomes to those of 'action sports'. Structuring these by activity rather than involvement is another instance where severity is beside the point and the emphasis is instead shifted to a different kind of creative response. Exploring the creative process through individual case vignettes brings theory and practice to life. By examining specific outcomes, one might gain a deeper understanding of how the therapist and the client function in whatever contextual setting and activity.
