ABSTRACT

In granular materials, like sand or grain seed, each particle has its own shape and size. However, such information on each individual particle is not sufficient to characterize the granular materials. An assembly of many particles shows different topology depending on the way they are packed and their force-deformation history. As a result, the mechanical response of granular materials is different from assembly to assembly. Thus, we investigate possible microtopology and its evolution developed in granular materials using a CA (cellular automata) particle simulation model.
