ABSTRACT

A listener being a humanoid alien or even a sonic persona is a material constituent of such sonically perceived situations as she or he is also under the influence of the sonically relevant emissions, radiations and reflections, energised particles and substances, as well as the transmitted vibrations and resonances. The material substance of a situation is not identical to the experiential substance of a situation. Sensibility can be a self-centred, as well as a self-expanding quality in a sonic persona. An anthropology of sound of this kind constitutes a framework for thinking, conceptualising and analysing situations of sound and the senses in such a way that they represent the material, as well as the experiential constellation present. A critical anthropology of that kind is always and necessarily so in permanent reflection of its own status and the predispositions, the necessary limitations, biases and exclusions actually stressed by the researcher, the observer, the writer herself or himself.
